Bears in the wild
The mere mention of these rugged landscapes brings to mind North America's fiercest, hardiest animals -- polar bears, black bears and brown bears (sometimes known as grizzly bears). In a world where bears are usually the endangered species, Alaska is a place where people have to watch their step. Bears can be found (when they want to be) in nearly every corner of the state.

The seven-day cruise aboard the luxurious Radiance departs from Vancouver and follows -- for the most part -- the Inside Passage along the British Columbia coastline to the Alaskan ports of Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan, and the Hubbard Glacier. It's a trip that anyone with a taste for adventure should try. There's nothing quite like relaxing on the balcony and inhaling the breathtaking scenery as you pass by at a few knots. Although there's the constant din of the rushing waters below and sea breezes, there is also tranquility and the surrealism of low-lying clouds hovering at eye level.

If anyone were to ask me for my favorite vacation destination, Alaska ranks way up there, with some of the best! The first thing that comes to mind is it's diversity, from glacial fjords to barren tundra, and from rain forest to subarctic taiga. Flora and fauna present a spectacle of their own, where else can you find the biggest salmon, the biggest bears, huge numbers of bald eagles, the largest fields of wildflowers and, in neighborhood gardens, the largest cabbages you have ever seen!

How many people can say they've had the pleasure of visiting the majestic state of Alaska? I never thought I'd get there, so on a whim one day, I took a job that would allow me the luxury of two full weeks in scenic Kodiak Island. I was alone, unassisted, embarking on the adventure of a lifetime. And while I knew it would be a heavenly experience, I never realized I was about to create life-altering memories. It is so well worth the money. And I promise you, the memories really WILL last a lifetime!

Juneau - Alaska's Capital
Juneau, the capital of Alaska, bursts during the summer with hundreds of thousands of cruise-ship passengers. Twelve decades ago, the young city was swamped with prospectors. Situated on the upper Inside Passage in Southeast Alaska, Juneau is almost 600 air miles from Anchorage and 900 miles from Seattle.
Flightseeing
Alaska flightseeing -- or sightseeing from the air -- gives visitors an extraordinary view of one of the world's most breathtaking landscapes. Small planes and helicopters take passengers through gorges and passes to fly over Alaska's mountains, lakes and glaciers. Sometimes the flights even land on the glaciers.
Celebrate Alaskas Native Culture
Alaska continues to be home to a diverse group of aboriginal people who first called the Last Frontier their home many thousands of years prior to the miners and merchants of the Gold Rush. The three main groups – Athabascan Indians, Eskimos and Aleuts – are collectively referred to as Alaska Natives. However, separately, they represent different cultures, languages and beliefs.

The Northern Lights
The northern lights can be incredibly bright, multihued and fast moving. The most common color is a brilliant yellow-green. Colorful northern lights displays can produce red, blue and purple patterns. Glowing, dancing curtains of light that ripple and sway, fold and unfold then suddenly disappear, only to reform in a new shape minutes later.
